Hi r/PS3, . Not too long ago I got a great deal on a CECHA01 PS3 with a ton of games and the essentials. Plugged it in and tested it out and it seems to work fine so far, other than a disc getting stuck which I was able to get out by doing the fan trick. I tried another disc with it and
If you want to put the time in you should custom firmware it to control the fan speed, repaste the console and if you can find on change the fan to a 15 blade D14F ( it is the quitest, draws the least power, and outperformce the other fans for the fat ps3 due to having a more optimal fan design and lower noise).I remember reading about lots of issues not booting up, getting super hot, etc. but its been awhile.
